The Dignity of Each Person through Compassion
My understanding of the word compassion is to ‘walk with’ people in distress in spite of their situation; compassion is the basis of morality and it is truly in compassion that we walk a deeper journey of faith.
Not until we are ready to take that walk and feel and endure what others have felt then there will not be transformation of heart. It is my firm belief that when we are uncomfortable we are able to grow spiritually.
We need to come to a point in our spiritual lives and see all people as one people, without seeing ourselves as above or below but recognizing equality.
Reflection
-
How are you walking compassionately with others?
-
Are you willing to journey with other compassionately even when it hurts, even when it is dangerous, even as they go through different deserts of life?
-
How do you feel when are being compassionate?
-
Do you feel like you are the giver or the receiver or do you receive a gift and it becomes reciprocal?
Thomas Aquinas said: “I rather feel compassion than know the meaning of it.” May god help us to realize that fully that we are instruments of service for the rest of humanity and that all people are one people……………”Out of many, one people”
